Lecciones del giro perpetrador en América Latina/Lessons from the Perpetrator Turn in Latin America, 2010-2020
Lessons from the Perpetrator Turn examines the growing focus on individual perpetrators in Latin America’s memory of recent dictatorships, tracing the emergence of this shift and offering a critical interpretation of its broader implications. Through a close analysis of eleven Chilean films—most released between 2010 and 2020—and the work of the regional human rights movement Disobedient Histories (Family Members of Perpetrators of Genocide for Memory, Truth, and Justice), the book investigates how this turn reshapes understandings of memory, accountability, and complicity, both under authoritarian rule and in democratic periods.
