Social psychologist Ervin Staub’s response to the Milgram experiments published in a special issue of the Journal of Social Issues. Staub asserts the importance of the Milgram experiments and the role of authority and obedience in genocide and mass violence they have shown. However, he proposes to study additional factors such as personality and the bystander effect.
