Sereny, Gitta. Into That Darkness

Historian Gitta Sereny seeks to portray Franz Stangl, Commandant of Sobibor and Treblinka, to find an explanation for his actions during the Holocaust. This examination into the guilt of a major perpetrator of the Holocaust is conducted by means of interviews with Stangl himself and other people involved, including his wife. It also presents an in-depth historical account of the Nazi euthanasia program and the Aktion Reinhard. The book has had an enormous impact on the perception and study of perpetrators.
