Hirschbiegel, Oliver. Der Untergang

The film tells the story of the last days of Adolf Hitler spent in his bunker, through the eyes of his secretary Traudl Junge. Based on historiographical texts and memoirs, including the one written by Junge, the film combines documentary and fictional elements. The story is told through the Nazi-perspective, mainly that of Hitler himself, during the fall of Berlin. What makes the film interesting for perpetrator studies is the emphasis on desperation and hopelessness in the Nazi-military command as they face their defeat. The film received critical acclaim.
