Christian Schwochow, dir. Heute ist nicht alle Tage – Die Täter

The film is the first part of a trilogy about the terrorist group ‘National Socialist Underground’ broadcasted in may 2016 on German television. While the two other films focus on the suffering of the victims’ family members and police investigations, Heute ist nicht alle Tage – Die Täter [Today is not every day – The perpetrators] depicts the radicalisation of Beate Zschäpe, Uwe Mundlos and Uwe Böhnhardt in the city of Jena in eastern Germany in the early 90s. The film combines documentary and fictional aspects. It is particularly striking that the actress who plays Zschäpe (Anna Maria Mühe) is looking directly at the camera several times and thus seems to include the spectator. The film as well as the whole trilogy have been awarded the German Grimme prize in the category ‘fiction’ in 2017.
