Achugar, Mariana. What we remember: The Construction of Memory in Military Discourse

This book explores the discursive manifestations of the conflict over how to remember and interpret the military’s actions during the last dictatorship in Uruguay (1973-1985). It approaches from a critical discourse analysis perspective how Uruguayan military discourse reconstructs the period of the dictatorship in texts produced by the institution and its members between 1973-2007. The meaning of these events is still being debated and negotiated in the Uruguayan political arena.

This book is of interest to historians, sociologists, and researchers in the field of transitional justice.
