Call for Expressions of Interest: Book Review Editor for the Journal of Perpetrator Research

The Journal of Perpetrator Research (JPR) is seeking a committed and passionate scholar to join our team as Book Review Editor.

JPR is a peer-reviewed, open-access academic journal dedicated to the interdisciplinary study of perpetrators of mass violence. Since its inception, JPR has been at the forefront of advancing scholarly understanding of perpetration, exploring the complex dynamics, motivations, and contexts that lead individuals and groups to commit acts of mass violence. Our journal provides a platform for rigorous academic debate and aims to foster a deeper comprehension of the factors and mechanisms underlying perpetration.

The role of book review editor is to commission reviews of newly published works in the field and ensure their timely publication in the journal. The main tasks include:

  • consult publisher’s lists and other sources to identify newly published books in the field of perpetrator studies;
  • seek input from other members of the editorial board at JPR;
  • find reviewers for the identified works;
  • contact the publisher to request review copies once a reviewer has been identified;
  • edit the submitted reviews and work with the author to prepare the review for publication to ensure that the review is up to standard and ready for publication;
  • liaise with the editorial board about upcoming reviews;
  • maintain a database of books and reviewers.

We are looking for candidates who meet the following criteria:

– A strong academic background in a relevant field such as history, political science, sociology, psychology, law, or other disciplines related to the study of perpetrators of mass violence.

– A proven track record of academic publications and editing experience.

– Excellent organizational and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

– A commitment to the mission and values of the Journal of Perpetrator Research, including a dedication to academic excellence and the ethical considerations of research on sensitive and challenging topics.
