NEPAT

NEPAT – The Brazilian Center for Nazism and Holocaust Studies – is an independent and totally feminine student initiative of undergraduate, master and doctoral students in History at the Federal University of Minas Gerais. It is a group created, produced and headed only by women. We help promote education and research of Nazism and the Holocaust in Brazil and beyond.

NEPAT arose from the need to create spaces for academic dialogue, as in Brazil these fields of study are not consolidated or centralized yet. In addition, we observed a demand from the non-specialized public for quality historical content on these issues that provoke so many reflections and so much curiosity. Therefore, NEPAT works on two main fronts: academic production and scientific divulgation. In the academic field, we organize events, coordinate an interdisciplinary association of studies (Thinking the Extremes: International Studies Association of Nazism, Memory and War), and also seek to establish partnerships with other institutes and international initiatives. In the field of outreach, we work with the production of content about Nazism, World War II, and the Holocaust for our social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, Twitch) and our podcast, Desnazificando. We believe that the dissemination of knowledge carried out in a committed and ethical manner is essential for the construction of a democratic and critical society. Alongside our work, NEPAT coordinators (Anna Viana, Bárbara Deoti and Maria Visconti) carry out individual research projetcs related to the themes of Nazism and Holocaust.
