Critical Evaluation of Media Strategies on Conflict Resolution. A Seminar with Lubna Shaheen.
In this seminar, Dr. Lubna Shaheen will discuss the media highlights about the war which the Talibans have been waging for decades and for which Pakistan is the epicenter. Demands by the Taliban were quite difficult to implement, except for a few of them, such as the review of Pak-US relations on drone attacks and cutting-down of the US influence on all matters, as well as the evacuation of national forces from the local civil areas of the country. However, the Sharia Law and its enforcement needed more time to be implemented compared with the time frame the Talibans were giving forth. The representation in the media of these demands as peace talks will be discussed during the seminar.
Dr. Lubna Shaheen is an assistant professor for the department of Communication Studies at the University of the Punjab. She works within the fields of Quantitative Social Research and Communication and Media. Her latest publication “Peace or War Journalism? Coverage of Pakistani National Press on Balochistan issue during Musharraf Regime-Part I” focuses on the framing of events during the military regime by two leading newspapers.
